B-Side Room Switch-a-Roo of Fall '04

The 'down-low'

Over the summer of '04 seniors and juniors girls alike were changing rooms trying to get ready for the coming year. However some room arrangements did not work out (in particular the switch with LB and ET) in time for the start of school and people were left to deal with some odd room arrangments. After a month a basic meeting was set up for anyone who wanted to switch rooms on B-side (hosted by the RA's and the third floor RLC), not just those who had been jibbed over the summer. More than a few showed up including some who were not in Res Life's favor. What was expected was a forum on how the switches were to occur (most of the girls had worked out switches themselves) but instead they found a lecture on how inconvenient the room switches were and a list of new roommates, most set up the exact opposite of the original plans. No one had been asked about the new plan, it had been made up by Res Life with no input from any of the girls. The idea was to force people to coexist and find a common ground. Enemies were now rooming together, night-studiers living with sleepers, etc, causing even more problems than they fixed. Since the room arrangements were res life's call, any appeals were mostly argued against or completely ignored. Res life was even skeptical to medical situations where it was affecting some girls' health to continue to live in their conditions (extreme sounding, yes, but very real situations did occur due to this). Finally after a long battle between parents, students, Res life, and admin, a couple of room changes were made late in the school year to fix the severe problems but the rest was never fixed until move out.
