The H.O. shirts (2004)

The 'down-low'

The ho shirt incident is one of the few incidents in govie history that involved the locals more than actual administration and res life. It started as a joke between a group of senior and junior girls in the spring of 2004, the joke being coming up with fake organizational names that when the initials were taken spelt a dirty word. Eventually someone (LB) came up with the great idea to make shirts with one of the organizations on it in small print but the abbreviation in large font. That way they could wear them in public but still get the joke across. So LB gets together with her suite and five other girls and plan out the shirts. They choose HO which stood for “housing organization” for the front, and on the back listed everyone involved, along with fake/far-reaching nicknames. They were ordered off café press and sometime later, delivered. Note: two of the girls decided to not get one for obvious reasons. Since the delivery date was so late (they were delivered the afternoon before the US history final) they wore them the next day. When the reaction around the school was less than they expected, they decided to hit the local Hartsville scene. Wearing the shirts and tramp skirts, the HO were accosted at an intersection by the local Hartsville bike gang (the local Pool Time gang’s little brothers). When asked if they performed services by the group of 10 year olds, the girls, accompanied by their bf’s/male entourage, decided to hide out in the Midnight Rooster. Eventually the bike gang tracked them down. One junior male EH thought it would be funny if he acted as a pimp for the girls and when one of the boys offered two dollars he told him that it was not enough. The boys ran away looking for cash and it was believed that they wouldn’t come back, only they did. The large group decided to head back to school as the shirts weren’t exactly making them safe. The bike gang followed them, throwing rocks and demanding services. Finally, as the group got back to campus, several of the guys started fighting back and threatening the boys. The security guard also came out a minute later and told them to leave the premises. No one was hurt.
